Senior React Native / Expo Engineer
Senior React Native/Expo Engineer to own mobile applications serving patients and providers. Architect offline-first sync, HealthKit integrations, and AI-powered clinical workflows. 5 days/week onsite in San Francisco.
What You'll Do
- Architect the Mobile Clinical Experience: Build dynamic, high-performance mobile tools for patients and providers. Architect deep integrations with Apple HealthKit and Google Health Connect to ingest and visualize real-time patient data. Build highly responsive, secure messaging systems connecting patients to care teams.
- Leverage the Expo Ecosystem: Manage EAS builds, configure custom native modules via Config Plugins, and push seamless OTA updates.
- Design for the Edge: Architect robust, offline-first data synchronization strategies and implement aggressive local caching.
- Champion the Mobile UX: Obsess over frame rates, navigation stack transitions, keyboard avoidance behaviors, and accessibility standards.
- Build Agentic Workflows: Integrate AI capabilities directly into mobile interfaces to automate clinical operations and streamline patient support.
- Raise the Engineering Bar: Own key mobile architectural decisions, establish patterns for code reuse between web and mobile clients, and elevate engineers through rigorous code review and mobile testing practices.
Who You Are
- 5-7+ years of frontend engineering experience with deep, specialized focus on React Native and Expo.
- Experience building, shipping, and maintaining complex, data-heavy mobile applications in production.
- Deep understanding of the modern Expo ecosystem including EAS builds, native module integration (HealthKit/Health Connect), and App Store/Google Play review guidelines.
- Mastery of mobile state and performance: React render cycle, preventing UI thread blocking, optimizing list rendering, and orchestrating complex asynchronous data fetching.
- Full lifecycle ownership including CI/CD pipeline management, monitoring crash rates (Sentry for mobile), and app reliability.
- Experience using frontier agentic AI tools (e.g., Codex, Claude) to build faster while maintaining technical skepticism to audit and verify output.
- Low ego, high standards, excellent communication skills, and ability to thrive in cross-functional environments shaped by healthcare regulations and compliance.
- Excited to work 5 days/week onsite in San Francisco office.
