Android Software Engineer, Lyft Urban Solutions

Build and operate Android Rider Experience features for Lyft’s bike-share and scooter-share platforms, owning components from development through production support. The role requires 1–3 years of software engineering experience, Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and strong cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

Engineering and Delivery

  • Design, develop, deploy, monitor, operate, and maintain Rider Experience components end to end.
  • Write reliable, performant, maintainable code with comprehensive test coverage.
  • Reduce technical debt and improve tooling and code structure.
  • Analyze systems and processes to identify opportunities for improvement and automation.
  • Participate in code reviews and technical discussions.
  • Produce technical specifications, runbooks, and documentation covering requirements, security, and privacy.
  • Support onboarding, knowledge sharing, brown bags, technical talks, and engineering best practices.

Operations and Quality

  • Rotate on-call and monitor deployed code for stability and performance.
  • Proactively fix bugs and maintain dashboards and alerts.
  • Support and escalate production incidents and improve on-call practices and long-term reliability.

Collaboration

  • Partner with product, data science, analytics, operations, design, TPM, QA, and other cross-functional teams.
  • Communicate technical trade-offs clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 1–3 years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Experience with Kotlin.
  • Experience with Jetpack Compose, declarative UI development, and creating shared components.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, problem-solving, and technical decision-making skills.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary: CAD $72,000–$90,000.
