Community Engagement Manager, Data Centres

Build trusted community relationships and engagement strategies for Anthropic’s data centre infrastructure across Alberta. The role partners with government, community, infrastructure, communications, and sustainability stakeholders and requires substantial public-affairs experience, strong coalition-building skills, and regular regional travel.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain relationships with municipal governments, provincial agencies, economic development organizations, community groups, civic leaders, educational institutions, and workforce partners in data centre markets.
  • Develop and execute community engagement strategies across site selection, pre-development, construction, and ongoing operations.
  • Build coalitions, host education and listening sessions, and design local community-benefit solutions.
  • Represent Anthropic at public forums, town halls, planning hearings, community events, and in local media.
  • Monitor community sentiment and local political dynamics; advise internal teams on risks, opportunities, and engagement strategy.
  • Partner with Real Estate, Infrastructure, Communications, Energy, and Sustainability teams to incorporate community input and explain infrastructure plans.
  • Coordinate charitable giving, community investment, and economic development commitments, including nonprofit partnerships.
  • Build scalable community engagement processes and a repeatable playbook.

Requirements

  • Experience in community affairs, public affairs, economic development, government relations, municipal or provincial government, or a related field.
  • Direct experience engaging municipal councils and administrations and provincial governments on large infrastructure, construction, energy, or technology projects.
  • Strong relationship-building, coalition-building, public representation, writing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to explain complex operational plans in plain language, work independently, and manage multiple engagements across markets.
  • Based in Alberta, Canada or willing to relocate there; able to travel regularly across the region, up to 50% of the time.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of community engagement experience on data centre, utility, energy, or large-scale industrial infrastructure projects, or in local government.
  • Familiarity with land use, zoning, and municipal and provincial development permitting.
  • Experience managing corporate social responsibility programs.
  • Established relationships with economic development, workforce, or civic organizations.
  • Experience collaborating with real estate, legal, communications, and policy teams.

Benefits and Logistics

  • Hybrid policy requiring staff to work from an Anthropic office at least 25% of the time; some roles may require more office time.
