About the role

Responsibilities

  • Translate requirements from product managers, scientific and clinical stakeholders, internal stakeholders, and development and support teams into integrations, services, and solutions for scaling the data platform.
  • Implement features with high standards for data integrity, sound design, and maintainability.
  • Draft RFCs for complex feature discovery and technical design, incorporating feedback and aligning on implementation decisions.
  • Ensure correctness when data moves between systems, including completeness, idempotency, and predictable behavior under partial failure.
  • Improve operational robustness and ease of use through documentation, tools, and dashboards.
  • Design and scale backend systems for data infrastructure, including PostgreSQL data models, Kafka-driven event pipelines, and GraphQL APIs.
  • Lead the design and integration of services and components for data and event processing.
  • Own pipelines that deliver dataset snapshots into the data warehouse.
  • Collaborate with platform and application teams to implement APIs for clinical studies and digital health products.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of backend development experience, including at least 2 years focused on data platforms and backend infrastructure for data-centric applications.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and production experience with PostgreSQL as an application database.
  • Experience writing and tuning queries by hand and reasoning about schema design, indexes, and query plans.
  • Hands-on experience with data streaming and event processing using Kafka or an equivalent such as RabbitMQ, Pulsar, Amazon Kinesis, or another cloud-based equivalent.
  • Proficiency in Julia or Python.
  • Experience deploying and operating services in containerized environments.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform and/or Helm.
  • Experience with GraphQL and TypeScript/JavaScript, including Node.js.
  • Collaborative mindset and strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-directed approach and experience thriving in hybrid or fully remote teams.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Julia.
  • Willingness to learn Julia.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary range: $150,000–$170,000.
  • Total compensation includes equity, paid time off, and other benefits.
