Embedded Software Engineer
Maintains and advances Tulip’s embedded Linux operating system across bootloaders, kernels, userspace, networking, and hardware targets. The role requires 4+ years building customer-facing embedded products and experience with systems languages, OS build systems, and hardware interfaces.

Responsibilities
- Maintain the Tulip Operating System, including building, packaging, and support.
- Configure and maintain routing, networking, and device configurations.
- Maintain and add bootloader and kernel patches and device trees on Tulip hardware.
- Port the Tulip OS to other hardware targets.
- Maintain and support the OS toolchain and versioning.
- Debug and resolve customer issues with support staff and technical teams.
- Support security-related tooling for engineering firmware releases and the release process.
- Use AI-assisted tooling to accelerate troubleshooting, improve engineering workflows, and support development and maintenance of the Tulip OS and related platform components.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience building embedded products used daily by customers.
- Experience with a systems language such as C, C++, or Rust.
- Experience with an OS build system such as Yocto, Buildroot, or Android.
- Experience with shell scripting and command-line environments.
- Familiarity with an interpreted language such as JavaScript or Python.
- Familiarity with hardware buses and devices such as I2C, SPI, and PCIe.
- Working understanding of web and networking concepts, including HTTP, DNS, TCP/IP, SSL/TLS, sockets, and proxy servers.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
- Experience partnering with Product and Design teams to scope work.
- Bias for action and impact.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs over a microservice architecture.
- Experience with Redux, Node.js, Go, Electron, MongoDB, Postgres, and WebSockets.
- Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools such as Claude, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot in embedded or systems environments.
- Experience as a team lead or technical lead for a software team.
