About the role

Responsibilities

  • Build microservices and APIs that drive platform integrations across web and mobile platforms.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to build interfaces and systems that evolve to meet critical business needs.
  • Build infrastructure, applications, tools, and platforms for distributed systems, large compute clusters, and petabyte-scale storage.
  • Scale distributed applications in a highly available, 24x7 environment.
  • Make architectural trade-offs using design patterns and disciplined execution.
  • Improve the accuracy, latency, and reliability of host-facing tax systems.
  • Lead engineers through significant architectural changes.
  • Shape the team’s technical roadmap and long-term strategy.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, data science, data engineering, and platform teams.
  • Mentor engineers and drive engineering excellence across team boundaries.
  • Build alignment on architectural decisions and trade-offs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 9+ years of industry experience.
  • Demonstrable experience with Java, Kotlin, relational databases, and distributed systems.
  • Experience leading technical discussions and mentoring engineers.
  • Experience with architectural patterns for high-scale web applications, including well-designed APIs, data pipelines, and efficient algorithms.
  • Experience collaborating with design, product, and data science partners.
  • Familiarity with AI development tools.
  • Strong understanding of systems reliability, observability, incident management, and fault-tolerant services.
  • Experience managing engineers, or strong interest in developing people-leadership skills.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base pay range: $212,000–$265,000 USD.
  • May be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
