Underwriter

Underwrites new and renewal cyber and specialty-risk accounts for the German market while developing broker relationships and advising clients on coverage and risk decisions. Requires 3+ years of underwriting experience, German and English fluency, and familiarity with Germany’s commercial insurance market.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite new and renewal accounts within authority, following underwriting guidelines, risk appetite, carrier requirements, and German market expectations.
  • Build relationships with cyber specialists and sophisticated property and casualty placing brokers in Germany.
  • Maintain underwriting files, documentation, and internal tools according to company workflows and governance standards.
  • Participate in broker and client meetings, presenting account strategy and underwriting rationale.
  • Handle complex coverage, structure, and wording discussions, escalating non-standard issues when needed.
  • Partner with Sales, Product, Claims, CPU, and security teams on underwriting decisions and broker/client discussions.
  • Provide feedback on underwriting guidelines, tools, and processes to support high-quality production underwriting in Germany.
  • Travel across Germany for broker relationship management, client meetings, broker education, and market development.

Requirements

  • 3–6+ years of underwriting or related experience, including meaningful exposure to cyber, technology errors and omissions, or other complex specialty risks.
  • Ability to independently analyze underwriting and pricing risks and make decisions within authority.
  • Ability to explain underwriting decisions and rationale to brokers and clients.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-management skills in a broker-distributed environment.
  • Developing fluency in complex coverage structures, client presentations, and wording discussions.
  • Familiarity with the German broker landscape and commercial insurance market.
  • Professional fluency in German and English.
