About the role
Responsibilities
Serve as technical lead for the Data Engineering team, owning architecture and design decisions for core data systems.
Partner with Data Analysts, SREs, IT Engineers, and business teams to clarify requirements, validate outputs, and communicate risks, tradeoffs, and timelines.
Own and operate the self-hosted Prefect orchestration platform, including its build/worker system, operational hygiene, upgrades, and cost and footprint tradeoffs.
Own the Snowflake environment, including data modeling, performance and cost optimization, RBAC and permissions design, tooling, and governance.
Build, operate, and monitor data pipelines, ingestion services, integrations, and the warehouse with reliable logging, alerting, and observability.
Advance the dbt practice, including the dbt Fusion migration and warehouse cost and performance at scale.
Develop cloud-native services and infrastructure on AWS, including event-driven ingestion, APIs, upsert patterns, and reusable packages.
Advance infrastructure-as-code practices using Terraform or similar tools, including reusable modules, deployment patterns, CI integration, and self-hosted or hybrid deployments.
Partner with the Data Engineering manager on technical direction, platform roadmaps, engineering standards, and architectural tradeoffs.
Mentor and grow data engineers through code review, pairing, design feedback, and coaching.
Support data science and agentic initiatives by preparing model-ready datasets, exposing features, and integrating AI/LLM workflows into production.
Contribute to secure, compliance-minded engineering practices with IT and Security.
Requirements
Deep expertise in Snowflake, including advanced data modeling, query and warehouse performance tuning, cost management, and security/RBAC design.
Technical leadership experience setting direction, driving architecture, and delivering complex systems across a team.
Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to lead through influence.
Experience mentoring junior and mid-level engineers through coaching, review, and pairing.
Strong Python and SQL fundamentals, with solid ELT patterns and data modeling experience.
Hands-on experience operating self-hosted or self-managed orchestration. Prefect is strongly preferred; equivalent experience running Airflow or Dagster on owned infrastructure is acceptable.
Hands-on AWS and infrastructure-as-code experience using Terraform or an equivalent tool.
Experience building cloud applications or backend services, including APIs, ingestion services, and event-driven workflows.
Production-grade engineering practices, including logging, alerting, versioning, and CI/CD.
Fluency with AI-assisted development platforms such as Claude Code and demonstrated ability to use them to accelerate delivery.
