About the role

Responsibilities

  • Architect, build, and operate the network foundation for platform and product teams.
  • Design and deploy IPv6-native VPC architecture and bring up IPv6 networking for EKS workloads.
  • Define long-term strategy for network addressing, connectivity, and scaling, including multi-cloud connectivity.
  • Set technical direction for cloud networking as the organization scales.
  • Establish standards and best practices for networking that other teams build against.
  • Serve as the authority on cloud networking decisions.
  • Level up the networking competency of engineers across the organization.
  • Take over existing network and design its modern successor architecture.
  • Drive architectural decisions independently and communicate tradeoffs to engineers and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Deep, hands-on AWS networking expertise with experience designing and operating it in production at scale.
  • Strong vendor-agnostic networking fundamentals: IP addressing and subnetting (IPv4 and IPv6), routing, DNS, TCP/IP, BGP, and NAT.
  • Demonstrated history of setting technical direction across an organization, influencing without authority, establishing standards, and leveling up teams.
  • Comfort being the first specialist in a domain, defining the practice and making foundational decisions.
  • Demonstrated experience deploying and troubleshooting IPv6 in a cloud or large network environment.
  • Production experience with core cloud networking primitives (VPCs, transit/peering, IPAM, private connectivity) on AWS, ideally on at least one other provider.
  • Experience with private DNS in Route 53.
  • Kubernetes networking experience, ideally with EKS (CNI behavior, pod/service/ingress addressing).
  • Infrastructure-as-code proficiency (Terraform or equivalent) and comfort with code-reviewed, GitOps-style workflows.
  • Ability to operate independently and drive architectural decisions.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Hands-on networking experience with multi-cloud connectivity tooling.
  • Experience with multi-account/multi-project cloud environments (AWS Organizations, Control Tower, landing zones).
  • Network security and compliance experience.
  • AWS certifications (Advanced Networking – Specialty or similar).
  • Familiarity with public DNS management (Cloudflare or similar).
