Backend Engineer
Backend Engineer building and scaling highly-available services for Fathom's AI meeting assistant. Requires strong Rails and Kubernetes/Go experience to improve reliability, efficiency, and customer experience at massive scale.

Responsibilities
- Contribute to highly-scalable services (stateless and stateful) running in multiple regions, supporting spiky but predictable workloads, deployed via multi-stage rollouts.
- Improve existing services, analyze runtime and cost efficiencies, and suggest improvements.
- Lead development of new services such as a Kubernetes operator or cloud storage caching layer.
- Participate in technology evaluations and architecture evolution discussions.
- Harden and productize internally or externally developed libraries and services.
- Re-evaluate the relationship between backend services and user-facing applications to drive scalability improvements.
Requirements
- Proficiency with Rails (or similar full-stack framework), including strong understanding of ActiveRecord (or analogous ORM), database schema design, and query performance/optimization.
- Proficiency with Kubernetes and Go (or another systems language), including strong understanding of garbage collection and profiling. Cgo experience is a bonus.
- Familiarity with GCP/GKE, Linux, Docker, Ruby/Rails, Redis, ffmpeg (or equivalents).
- Experience in a SaaS or PaaS environment at scale (100s of millions of async jobs per week). Video streaming at scale is a bonus.
