Closed: Staff Backend Engineer at Okta

Responsibilities

Design, code, debug, test, monitor, and deploy performant backend services and connector plugins in Go.
Own complex technical problems end to end, translating product goals into modular technical designs and implementation plans.
Design reliable, scalable components for database scraping and network protocol management using spikes, proof-of-concepts, and telemetry.
Build secure database and network device connectors for routers, switches, and firewalls on the Zero Standing Privileges platform.
Participate in the global on-call rotation, troubleshoot complex incidents, perform root-cause analysis, and build remediation automation.
Identify technical debt, improve CI/CD pipelines, observability, and alerting, and maintain technical documentation.
Identify technical risks, dependency gaps, and performance bottlenecks before they affect delivery.
Conduct code reviews, establish Go best practices, and mentor engineers.
Collaborate with global technical leads on design proposals, dependencies, and architectural alignment.

7+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years building high-scale, cloud-native backend systems.
Experience independently owning large tasks end to end and influencing technical decisions across a team.
Experience in Privileged Access Management (PAM), Identity and Access Management (IAM), or deep networking infrastructure.
Familiarity with credential management, asset discovery, or agentless communication patterns.
Strong Go skills, or deep expertise in C++, Rust, or Java with a demonstrated ability to learn Go quickly.
Experience with SSH, Telnet, TCP/IP, database security, microservices, and asynchronous event-driven systems.
Familiarity with AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD automation, and telemetry or observability tools.
