Staff Platform Engineer
Build and operate a scalable, secure platform supporting Ashby’s growing product and engineering organization. The role combines infrastructure engineering, reliability, developer tooling, security, database optimization, and hands-on software development with substantial end-to-end ownership.

Responsibilities
- Build and scale platform infrastructure and infrastructure-as-code capabilities.
- Optimize the recruiting DSL-to-SQL compiler and create developer optimization tools.
- Create automated security and privacy guardrails for customer data.
- Enable canary deployments, gradual rollouts, and feature flags while reducing downtime.
- Define SLOs with business and engineering stakeholders and implement corresponding SLIs.
- Ensure external-service communication supports retries and circuit breakers.
- Implement infrastructure for event-driven architecture and a data warehouse.
- Own projects end-to-end, including infrastructure updates, security enforcement, database optimization, Kubernetes debugging, monitoring, and release automation.
- Review and submit code changes, contribute to developer tooling, and participate in on-call rotations.
- Communicate best practices through async written communication and code.
Requirements
- Professional experience building infrastructure at a later-stage, high-scale company.
- Experience handling millions of data points and understanding how infrastructure affects customer experience.
- Experience automating provisioning, monitoring, and release processes.
- Strong software engineering and coding ability.
- Ability to debug Kubernetes systems and TypeScript traces.
- Ability to work with SQL and advise on performant data models.
- Ability to independently deliver projects, manage scope, and make sound technical decisions.
- Willingness to evaluate operational risk and balance reliability with flexibility.
- Willingness to participate in follow-the-sun on-call rotations.

Compensation and Benefits
- Annual salary range: $151,000–$246,000.
