About the role
Responsibilities
Design and develop services across a 20+ microservice Backstage platform using TypeScript and Node.js.
Expose REST and GraphQL APIs consumed by other services and the Backstage frontend.
Own the Backstage catalog and ingestion pipeline, syncing entities from Helm, ArgoCD, GCP, and GitHub nightly and on demand.
Extend the platform with engineering maturity scoring, change management workflows, AI-generated reports, and test management tooling.
Develop LLM-powered services and MCP servers that make catalog and engineering data accessible to humans and AI agents.
Own service reliability on GKE using ArgoCD GitOps, PostgreSQL, Redis, and Datadog monitoring, including incident response and runbook ownership.
Partner with engineering, governance, architecture, and infrastructure teams to translate needs into catalog models, golden paths, and self-service tooling.
Requirements
Advanced proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js, with strong software architecture fundamentals.
Hands-on experience designing and shipping REST and GraphQL APIs in production.
Hands-on experience building or extending Backstage, including plugin development, catalog models, software templates, and TechDocs.
Strong proficiency with PostgreSQL and Redis; MongoDB familiarity is a plus.
Experience with Kubernetes, including GKE deployment, scaling, and production troubleshooting.
Experience with GCP, ArgoCD, Helm, and GitHub Actions.
Working proficiency with Terraform for cloud infrastructure management.
Practical experience integrating LLMs into production services; familiarity with MCP or agentic AI patterns.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
5+ years of software engineering experience, including experience building internal developer platforms or platform/infrastructure tooling.
Compensation and Benefits
Base salary: $140,000–$220,000 USD.
