Responsibilities

First 30 Days

• Immerse in Bastion's financial infrastructure.
• Review all active regulatory reporting obligations.
• Meet with Legal, Compliance, and Risk teams to understand the regulatory landscape.
• Partner with teams to understand domains, handoffs, and integration needs for accounting and treasury workflows.
• Review current FP&A cadence, budget building, actuals tracking, and visibility gaps.

Outcomes:

• Speak confidently on company's financial position, close process, and regulatory reporting.
• Provide clear assessment of internal controls with prioritized remediation plan.
• Finance team and partners understand your operating style.

By 90 Days

• Run and improve month-end close process (reduce cycle time, improve accuracy, eliminate manual workarounds, establish close calendar).
• Own all regulatory reporting, ensure timely and accurate filings with review/sign-off processes.
• Build FP&A rhythm: monthly budget-vs-actual, cost allocation, variance analysis, and improved financial visibility.

Outcomes:

• Predictable close calendar with documented procedures.
• Regulatory filings on time with clear audit trails.
• Leadership has usable monthly financial reporting.
• Documented internal controls framework with testing begun on high-risk areas.

By 180 Days

• Own annual planning: build financial model, facilitate department budgeting, connect revenue to headcount/burn/runway.
• Prepare finance function for increasing regulatory complexity, scaling reporting/controls/processes.
• Develop team: assess capabilities, identify gaps, make hiring recommendations, build finance organization for next 12-18 months.

Outcomes:

• Finance function exceeds maturity expectations of regulators, auditors, and customers.
• Board and leadership trust the numbers (accurate, timely, actionable reporting).
• Internal controls as a strength with documented and tested environment.

Requirements

• Hands-on leadership experience owning numbers end-to-end: month-end close, regulatory filings, financial models for capital allocation and product pricing.
• Deep experience in accounting and financial reporting.
• Ability to drive strategic financial planning, build FP&A capabilities, and partner with leadership.
• Background from controller or senior accounting with exposure to strategic finance.
• Comfortable with reviewing journal entries, building customer-level P&Ls and pricing models, presenting to the board.
• Experience in highly regulated industries (financial services preferred).
• Technical accounting depth, controls discipline, and judgment for regulated environments.
• Comfort with fast-paced startup environment; ability to contribute immediately and be productive quickly.

Nice-to-Haves

• Specific experience with NYDFS trust charter or similar regulatory reporting.
• Prior experience building scalable finance systems, processes, and infrastructure in a startup.
