Systematic Review Analyst
Conducts systematic literature searches in biomedical databases, screens articles, extracts data, and prepares evidence summaries for NIH health programs and policy. Requires 5+ years experience with PubMed, Embase, and review tools like Covidence.
Duties & Responsibilities
Literature Search and Evidence Gathering
- Design and execute systematic literature searches across scientific databases including PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and related sources
- Develop structured search strategies using controlled vocabularies (e.g., MeSH) and advanced Boolean search techniques
- Identify relevant peer-reviewed articles, reports, and grey literature to address research questions
- Maintain organized libraries of retrieved publications and supporting materials
Systematic Review Support
- Screen and evaluate research articles based on defined inclusion and exclusion criteria
- Extract key information from relevant studies including methodology, outcomes, and limitations
- Support systematic, scoping, and rapid review workflows in collaboration with subject matter experts
- Document search strategies and review processes to ensure transparency and reproducibility
Reporting and Collaboration
- Prepare literature summaries, annotated bibliographies, and evidence tables to support program reports and policy analyses
- Assist technical teams and subject matter experts by rapidly identifying relevant scientific evidence for emerging research questions
- Communicate findings clearly and concisely to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams supporting federal health research and policy initiatives
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Library Science, Public Health, Biomedical Science, Information Science, or related field
- 5+ years of experience conducting literature searches or supporting systematic reviews in biomedical or health research domains
- Strong experience using scientific literature databases such as PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, or Scopus
- Familiarity with systematic review frameworks (e.g., PRISMA or Cochrane methodology)
- Experience using citation management or review tools such as EndNote, Zotero, Covidence, or Rayyan
- Strong analytical and research skills with attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple research questions and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) or Public Health (MPH)
- Experience supporting systematic reviews for federal agencies, academic medical centers, or research organizations
- Experience contributing to peer-reviewed publications or evidence synthesis reports
- Familiarity with evidence synthesis tools and systematic review workflows
Compensation
- Competitive salary: $80,000 – $110,000
