Role
Senior Software Engineer on the Developer Tools team building and owning AI tooling for Whatnot's engineering and non-engineering teams. Focus on infrastructure, workflows, and integrations that enable AI coding agents and assistants to improve code writing, shipping, and operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and ship AI tooling from developer productivity wins to autonomous agent capabilities
- Design sandboxed, containerized environments for AI agents to run code, tests, and iterate
- Develop multi-agent orchestration systems (e.g., CI-fixing agents, SRE context agents)
- Enable non-engineers (PMs, designers, operations) with AI workflows and low-code interfaces
- Optimize AI-aware developer infrastructure: CLAUDE.md configs, MCP servers, prompt engineering, context management
- Deploy, monitor, and maintain AI tool infrastructure for reliability
- Evaluate and integrate emerging AI tools
Requirements:
- 5+ years software engineering experience with production systems; backend-leaning preferred, comfortable with frontend
- Developer tooling enthusiast with experience building internal tools or platform infrastructure
- Deep familiarity with AI coding tools (Claude Code preferred, Cursor, Codex); use in real work
- Strong product thinking, technical design docs, clear communication across audiences
Nice-to-haves:
- Experience with agent sandboxing, containerized environments, multi-agent orchestration, LLM APIs/observability, prompt engineering, non-technical AI workflows
