About the role

Responsibilities

  • Own command-and-control workflows end to end, from vehicle command definitions through middleware, networks, and the operator control unit (OCU).
  • Define and evolve message contracts for vehicle state, tasks, and commands across producing and consuming systems.
  • Extend integration layers between autonomy software and middleware, including telemetry, autonomy state, route and convoy state, zones, waypoint driving, route planning, convoy, and teleoperation.
  • Partner on operator-facing interfaces to expose commands and vehicle behaviors.
  • Maintain the legacy OCU while migrating workflows to a next-generation interface.
  • Deploy C2 workflows onto customer hardware, validate them under real-world conditions, and debug issues across autonomy, middleware, and networking layers.
  • Analyze test and field results, identify failures, and collaborate across teams to resolve root causes.
  • Translate program and end-user requirements into C2 capabilities and serve as the integration point of contact for program success.
  • Use agentic AI tooling to navigate codebases, prototype, and ship.
  • Travel 10–50% depending on candidate preference and role placement; commute to Clarksburg, MD as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, robotics, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience with publish/subscribe or message-oriented middleware.
  • Ability to learn message schemas, interface-definition formats, and code generation quickly.
  • Willingness to contribute across the full stack and learn how command and control is represented through user interfaces.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn unfamiliar codebases and work independently.
  • Core software engineering skills, including software design, unit testing, and debugging.
  • Proficiency with the Linux command line and Linux development and deployment environments.
  • Willingness to use agentic AI tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • C++ proficiency.
  • Full-stack web application development with React, Vue, Svelte, TypeScript, Next.js, Remix, Nuxt, Node.js, or NestJS.
  • Experience with RESTful APIs or GraphQL.
  • Networking experience with UDP/TCP, unicast, broadcast, multicast, routing, and hands-on debugging over constrained or unreliable links.
  • Experience integrating software on hardware products.
  • Robotics or autonomous-systems experience.
  • Familiarity with real-time or near-real-time systems.
  • Background in defense, automotive, robotics, or safety-critical software.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Annual salary range: $120,000–$200,000.
  • Equity is included in most full-time, high-demand roles.
