The Staff Data Scientist will shape measurement, experimentation, and product strategy for Pinterest Notifications while improving the machine-learning systems behind notification delivery and content. About the role

Responsibilities

  • Develop measurement frameworks and metrics to drive data-driven decision-making and optimize the full user journey.
  • Provide product recommendations to evolve the Notifications strategy based on deep analysis of observed shortcomings.
  • Conduct opportunity sizing and write clear, actionable analyses to identify improvements to growth strategies.
  • Partner with product, engineering, and ML leadership to prioritize and scope projects and inform the Notifications user experience and related machine-learning systems.
  • Improve machine-learning models powering notification delivery and content through direct contributions, new features or signals, and compelling analyses.
  • Mentor other data scientists and ensure high-quality work across mentored projects.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of combined post-graduate academic and industry experience applying scientific methods to real-world problems using web-scale data.
  • Strong background in statistics, machine learning, and/or experimentation.
  • Expertise in at least one scripting language, ideally Python or R.
  • Proficiency in SQL or Hive.
  • Strong business and product sense, including the ability to turn ambiguous questions into well-defined analyses and success metrics.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and present compelling data narratives to leadership and product teams.
  • Experience iterating on user products through A/B experimentation with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience leading technical projects and substantially influencing the scope and output of others.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, or equivalent experience.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary: $164,695–$339,078 USD.
  • Eligible for equity.
  • Benefits and additional culture information are available through Pinterest.
  • This position is not eligible for relocation assistance.
  • The role requires in-office collaboration 1–2 times per quarter and can be situated anywhere in the country.
