About the role

Responsibilities

  • Lead the controllership function: Own integrity of financial reporting, including financial statements, month- and year-end close, technical accounting, and compliance with US GAAP.
  • Establish accounting policies that support new products and customer contracts.
  • Build accounting infrastructure: Design and implement scalable processes, technological & financial systems, internal controls, and documentation.
  • Own operational accounting: Lead day-to-day operations across AP, AR, billing, expense management, treasury, and cash management; improve automation and efficiency.
  • Drive financial visibility: Develop revenue recognition (ASC 606), cost accounting, and reporting processes for insights into performance, margins, customer profitability, and resource allocation. Maintain aligned chart of accounts.
  • Own accounting technology stack and improve integrations across ERP, CRM, billing, payroll, and expense platforms.
  • Support international expansion: Build processes for multi-entity operations, international consolidations, FX, and coordination with external partners.
  • Partner with leadership: Serve as accounting expert on technical matters, strategic initiatives, and business decision-making.
  • Prepare for scale: Lead external audits, strengthen governance and internal controls, and build the accounting organization, processes, systems, and team.

Requirements

  • Active CPA with 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including public accounting and/or high-growth startup experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
  • Deep knowledge of US GAAP, ASC 606, financial reporting, internal controls, audit management, and accounting systems.
  • Experience researching and applying technical accounting guidance to new business situations.
  • Controller mindset: Comfortable owning accounting policy, designing controls, making judgment calls, building the team, and serving as the accounting authority.
  • Ownership mentality: Balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution; solve problems without established processes.
  • Systems builder: Thrive creating infrastructure; design scalable, automated processes.
  • Cross-functional leader: Build partnerships across Finance, Sales, Operations, Engineering, and Legal; communicate complex concepts clearly.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience implementing and optimizing ERP systems and tools like Ramp, Stripe, Bill, Coupa; familiarity with Anrok, Rillet, Campfire.
  • Background in high-growth B2B SaaS with recurring revenue models, deployment modalities, gross margin analysis, operational metrics, and startup finance.
  • Experience with Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), indirect rate structures, government contract accounting, and defense-related financial operations.
  • Experience supporting international entities, multi-entity consolidations, FX accounting, transfer pricing, IFRS; partnering with external firms across jurisdictions.
  • Experience joining an early-stage company or building an accounting function from the ground up.

Compensation

  • Base pay range: $180,000 – $210,000 per year.
