About the role

Responsibilities

  • Own engineering execution and technical direction for the Conversation Product Area, including the Agent Engine, evaluation infrastructure, Search platform, AI Voice platform (Speak), and consumer agentic features.
  • Lead production systems at massive scale, applied ML research, and infrastructure used by other product areas.
  • Co-lead the Product Area in a paired product/engineering model, partnering on planning, prioritization, and external representation.
  • Manage approximately 70 engineers through Senior Engineering Managers and Staff/Principal Engineers across roughly nine teams.
  • Drive migration of existing agentic infrastructure onto the shared Agent Engine.
  • Set the technical strategy for Spotify's first-party voice investment, including build-versus-buy decisions and delivery of character and brand voice capabilities.
  • Define evaluation standards using feature-specific judges, datasets, and regression suites.
  • Establish engineering quality standards, including code review discipline and test coverage for AI-assisted development.
  • Represent the engineering organization in company-wide architecture and steering committee discussions.

Requirements

  • Deep technical expertise in architecture and production engineering for agent runtimes, evaluation systems, search, or voice and speech infrastructure.
  • Experience leading large engineering organizations through platform consolidations, migrations, or major technology evolutions.
  • Experience with at least two of the following:
    • LLM-based agent systems and orchestration
    • Evaluation or evaluation-infrastructure design, including automated judges and regression suites
    • Large-scale retrieval or search systems
    • Speech or voice machine-learning systems and production voice infrastructure
  • Experience managing engineering managers and building scalable management structures.
  • Track record of building strong, nimble teams and adapting resourcing and priorities without losing delivery momentum.
  • Availability to work with teams primarily in Eastern North America and Central European time zones.
