Software Engineer III (Ruby on Rails) (Marketing Technology)

Responsibilities

• Own feature development end-to-end, from technical design through delivery, breaking complex projects into well-scoped pieces across the martech stack.
• Write high-quality, idiomatic, performant, well-tested Ruby code.
• Contribute to team-level architectural decisions around data modeling, CDP event schemas, service boundaries, API design, and background processing.
• Design and own integrations with Customer Data Platform (CDP) and marketing automation tools like Braze (event ingestion, audience syncing, canvas triggering via API).
• Improve data reliability, pipeline performance, and developer experience proactively.
• Provide technical guidance to junior engineers through code reviews, pairing, and design feedback.
• Collaborate with Marketing, Data, and Product teams to implement campaign and personalization requirements.
• Participate in on-call rotation and contribute to incident response and improvements.
• Document technical decisions, data models, and integration patterns.

Requirements

Experience:

• 3–5 years of professional software engineering experience, with meaningful time building Ruby on Rails applications.
• Hands-on experience with a Customer Data Platform (Rudderstack, Segment, mParticle, or similar) — event tracking, identity resolution, audience building.
• Experience integrating with marketing automation platforms (Braze, Iterable, Klaviyo), including direct API usage.
• History of delivering complex features to drive business outcomes.
• Breaking down ambiguous requirements from non-technical stakeholders into technical plans.
• Exposure to large-scale, high-throughput distributed systems.

Technical Skills:

• Advanced proficiency in Ruby on Rails.
• Strong PostgreSQL skills (schema design, query optimization, migrations, performance at scale).
• Designing and building RESTful APIs within Rails.
• Data engineering fundamentals: pipeline design, event schema management, high-volume data flows.
• Solid testing practices (RSpec, Minitest; unit, integration, end-to-end).
• Background job processing (Sidekiq or similar).
• Containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
• CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows.

Working Style:

• Able to context-switch between technical work and stakeholder conversations.

• Experience with AI-assisted development tools.

Compensation

Typical salary range: $145,000 to $155,000 (actual pay depends on location, skills, experience, education).
