Senior Software Engineer, AI for the Planet

Responsibilities

• Build and ship high-quality, scalable full-stack products that integrate state-of-the-art ML models.
• Work as a generalist software engineer across web applications, data pipelines, distributed systems, and modern cloud tooling.
• Take software products end-to-end: shape requirements, design architecture, ship to external users, and iterate based on user feedback.
• Own production systems, including on-call rotations, troubleshooting issues, and analyzing logs, metrics, and code.
• Use modern AI tooling (e.g. Claude Code, agentic workflows) to accelerate engineering.
• Collaborate closely with ML research, Product, and Partnerships teams; travel to meet users.
• Contribute to projects such as the OlmoEarth platform for automated model development (handling large-scale GPU jobs on satellite imagery) and multi-tenant agent-orchestration platforms for AI products like Shippy.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience in industry (internships, graduate school, and research do not count toward this).
• Experience as a generalist across multiple parts of the stack and product lifecycle with strong foundations in web applications, data pipelines, distributed systems, and modern cloud tooling.
• Track record of taking software products end to end, including shaping requirements, architecture, shipping, and iterating on user feedback.
• Ownership of production systems, on-call, troubleshooting, and deriving insights from logs/metrics/code.
• Ability to write clear technical plans, give/receive feedback, prioritize, and guide stakeholders.
• Comfort using modern AI tooling to move faster.
• Strong interest in building technology for environmental conservation, food security, climate, and positive planetary impact.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience at small or growth-stage companies with end-to-end ownership.
• Hands-on experience integrating ML models into production (deployment, monitoring, scaling real-time inference); collaborating with researchers and building user-facing AI applications for non-technical users.
• Opinionated about software engineering practices (coding patterns, work breakdown, code review, testing, build systems) while remaining open to other views.
• Demonstrated technical depth and self-directed learning (e.g. open-source contributions, technical writing, conference talks, side projects).
• Open to occasional international travel to meet users.

Compensation

Base salary range is $126,000 - $189,000 with generous bonus plans for a competitive package.
