About the role

The Role

Remote, United States

Owning the frontend architecture of Pearl's AI-powered dental platform — defining component standards, driving UI quality, and shipping polished, performant interfaces that clinicians rely on every day.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and lead the development of scalable, maintainable frontend systems using component-oriented design principles
  • Own and evolve Pearl's design system and component library, setting standards for consistency, accessibility, and reuse across the product
  • Drive Storybook adoption as a first-class tool for component development, documentation, and visual testing
  • Partner closely with design, product, and backend engineers to shape technical direction and translate complex clinical workflows into intuitive UI
  • Establish and enforce frontend best practices — code reviews, testing standards, performance benchmarks, and observability
  • Use AI tools daily to generate component code from Figma designs, produce documentation, and accelerate UI development workflows
  • Apply AI-assisted analysis to diagnose and debug UI issues across the product
  • Generate and maintain end-to-end UI tests using Playwright
  • Contribute to full-stack features across the Node.js backend and AWS infrastructure when needed

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional frontend engineering experience
  • Expert-level Vanilla JS and React — deep platform knowledge, not just framework familiarity
  • Strong command of component-oriented programming and MVC architecture patterns
  • Proven experience building and maintaining design systems at scale
  • Hands-on Storybook experience for component development and documentation
  • Hands-on experience with AI-powered dev tools (Cursor, GitHub Copilot, v0, or similar) — active daily usage, not just familiarity
  • Ability to go from Figma designs to production-ready component code leveraging AI with minimal friction
  • Experience writing and generating UI tests with Playwright
  • Track record of writing well-tested, production-grade frontend code
  • Experience collaborating with design and product in fast-moving environments
  • Comfortable working independently and driving decisions with minimal oversight

Preferred Experience

  • Backend experience with Node.js and frameworks like Express or Koa
  • PostgreSQL and data modeling familiarity
  • AWS experience — Serverless, Lambda, Amplify, RDS, S3
  • Strong Git & GitLab workflow experience (branching strategies, MRs, CI/CD pipelines)
  • Healthcare or dental tech background a plus
