About the role
Responsibilities
- Drive strategic insights at the intersection of market structure, protocol and mechanism design, and user behavior.
- Conduct cutting-edge research into market structure, protocol design and mechanics, and incentive design, including internal-facing research on user behavior, product performance, and growth opportunities; external-facing projects on protocol design, trading, and DeFi evolution; educational content for traders and users.
- Collaborate with Engineering team and other parts of the business; communicate research findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Collaborate with Growth team to identify audience segments and leverage data-driven insights for growth strategies and product decisions.
- Lead deep and exploratory research on core product features and protocol development.
- Own and enhance data infrastructure: optimize systems, evaluate tools, promote data best practices.
- Define key metrics for protocol health and trader behavior.
- Build tools and pipelines for research reproducibility and insight generation.
- Shape and communicate product strategy through research-driven insights and external thought leadership.
- Collaborate with ecosystem partners and engage with user community.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in quantitative fields (Math, Computer Science, Physics, Statistics, Economics) or related.
- 4+ years in a technical role (Developer, Analyst, Quant, Data Scientist).
- 2+ years working with blockchain or order book data (e.g., indexing blocks, Dune dashboards, crypto exchange market data).
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Project management, time management, multitasking.
- Proficient with data visualization tools.
- Entrepreneurial, intellectually curious, passionate about data exploration and hypotheses.
Nice to Haves
- Experience in trading (especially HFT), market structure, derivatives.
- Knowledge of DeFi (especially dYdX), web3.
- Existing personal research/content brand.
- Experience with SQL, Python, Pandas, xarray, Mode, Amplitude, BigQuery.
Compensation
Salary range: $220K to $270K USD (NY), subject to experience and location. Excludes variable compensation like bonuses or equity.
