About the role
Responsibilities
Within one month:
- Build relationships with direct reports through 1:1s, understand strengths, goals, and projects; set cadence for team meetings, planning, and retros.
- Get hands-on with Batch Changes, MCP, Code Monitors, Code Insights, src CLI; form POV on product and technical bets.
- Meet cross-functional partners (Product, Design, Solutions Engineering, adjacent teams); translate customer feedback into shipping plan.
Within three months:
- Own roadmap and weekly execution: scope/sequence work, set ownership expectations, unblock team.
- Ship meaningful work; refine planning/prioritization based on outcomes.
- Provide direct feedback on performance/career growth; help reports set goals.
Within six months:
- Accountable for operational, people, roadmap aspects; strong technical voice on architecture, quality, trade-offs.
- Establish team culture/practices (planning, code review, decision-making, on-call).
- Known as expert on customer/agent needs for Code Plane; guide investments.
- Manage performance: cultivate top performers, address under-performance, raise hiring bar.
Within one year:
- Collaborate with product/engineering leadership on ambitious org goals.
- Develop technical/execution strategy to achieve goals.
Requirements
- 3+ years managing product-facing engineering teams; strong IC background (IC4-equivalent).
- Lead small teams: effective 1:1s, clear expectations, early feedback, technical guidance, code contributions.
- Customer/outcomes-focused: translate product input to roadmap, scope with Product/Design, prioritize/ship.
- Strong POV on coding agents (strengths, failures, product design); excitement to ship for AI ecosystem.
- Collaborative, async-first: proactive communication, stakeholder updates, open to feedback.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years managing professional software engineers (full performance cycle: hiring, onboarding, feedback, growth, managing out).
- Strong IC skills: technical guidance on architecture/code quality/trade-offs; ability to write high-quality code.
- Proven experience leading end-user product features.
