Core Product Lead
United StatesRemote8+ YOE
Summary
The Core Product Lead will own the product strategy across Core, managing PMs for various products like Postgres, Auth, and Storage. This role involves setting product bets, making cross-product decisions, coaching PMs, and representing Core in leadership.
About the role
What you'll be responsible for:
- Build and develop the Core PM team. You'll manage the PMs across Platform, Databases, Auth, Storage, Functions, and Realtime. Hire into open seats, coach the PMs already on the team, run performance cycles, and make sure every product surface has an owner who can carry it.
- Set the product strategy across Core. Decide where the bets are and how the products reinforce each other. Defend that agenda with the founders and the engineering leads who run each team.
- Make the cross-product calls. The hardest prioritisation in Core sits between products. What Auth ships affects Databases. What Realtime needs from Postgres shapes the database roadmap. Own those calls.
- Coach PMs on the craft. Customer evidence, problem definition, prioritisation, success metrics, written communication. Sit in on customer calls and roadmap reviews, read the docs and PRDs your PMs write, and tell them what's working and what isn't.
- Represent Core in leadership. Be the person who can speak to the state of every Core product in a board meeting, customer escalation, or strategy review without pulling in the individual PM every time. Translate engineering reality into a story the rest of the company can act on.
You might be a good fit if you:
- Have managed product managers before, ideally at the Director level or equivalent. You've hired PMs, fired PMs, run performance cycles, coached people through promotions, and held a team together through a hard quarter. You can name the PMs you've developed and what they went on to do.
- Have 8+ years of product management experience on developer tools or infrastructure, or an ex-founder background with the same depth. You're technical enough to read an architecture doc, follow a design discussion, and ask the right questions of engineers building distributed systems, databases, or cloud platforms.
- Have shipped in the Postgres, database, or developer-infrastructure space. You've owned products in this category, not just worked next to them. You understand how developers evaluate them, what makes them stick, and where they fail under load. Familiarity with open-source go-to-market (where the product, community, and commercial offering reinforce each other) is a bonus.
- Are biased toward speed. You'd rather have your team ship something imperfect and learn than spend another sprint refining a spec. You know when to stop planning and when to push your PMs to move.
- Use AI to move faster. You use AI tools to compress the slow parts of the job (research, drafting, synthesising customer feedback, reviewing PRDs) so more of your time goes to judgment calls and to the people you manage.
- Work async by default. Supabase is fully remote. You make decisions in writing, run your team through written artifacts, and move things forward without filling the calendar with meetings.
