## Job Description

## Responsibilities
- Lead the sanctions compliance program, including strategy, risk appetite, policies, roadmap, risk assessments, remediation, and program enhancements.
- Represent sanctions and export controls with senior leadership and cross-functional partners, and support the Regulatory Programs lead.
- Direct regulator-facing matters, including voluntary self-disclosures, blocking and reject reports, licensing questions, and regulatory or third-party inquiries.
- Govern restricted-party screening and enforcement controls, including list configuration, thresholds, escalations, vendor management, and exceptions.
- Serve as the senior escalation point for complex sanctions matters and establish standards for case disposition and escalation.
- Advise business and product teams on sanctions and trade-controls implications of expansion, products, channels, partnerships, and acquisitions.
- Support oversight of the export controls program and partner with counsel and compliance leadership on controls and reporting.
- Prepare reporting on program health, risks, and emerging issues for leadership, the Audit Committee, and governance forums.
- Monitor regulatory developments and enforcement actions and drive required program changes.
- Lead, mentor, and develop compliance team members.

## Requirements
- Hands-on experience leading an economic sanctions compliance program covering OFAC, EU, UK, and other applicable regimes in a commercial environment.
- Experience designing programs, owning policies, governing risk, managing voluntary self-disclosures, blocking or reject reports, regulator filings, remediation, and program enhancements.
- Experience governing restricted-party screening programs, including list scope, match thresholds, escalation criteria, and vendor management.
- Track record of reporting program health and risk to senior leadership, an audit committee, or a board, and driving risk-appetite decisions with executives.
- Working knowledge of US export controls, including EAR and BIS rules, sufficient to oversee an export-controls program.
- Experience partnering with counsel to interpret trade-controls requirements and translate them into practical guidance for product, engineering, operations, and commercial teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

## Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years of relevant experience in economic sanctions compliance, including several years leading a program or team.
- Experience managing and developing compliance professionals.
- Experience conducting sanctions diligence for acquisitions, vendors, and third parties, including state-ownership and 50 percent rule analysis.
- Experience partnering with trust and safety, enforcement, or threat intelligence teams.
- Experience in software, cloud, fintech, or AI contexts, including globally accessible platforms and downstream access risk.
- Experience at a Big Four or other compliance consulting or advisory firm, or at OFAC or another trade regulator.
- Experience in a hyper-scaling technology company or other fast-paced environment.
- Sound judgment and ability to make risk-based decisions with imperfect information.
- Integrity, humility, strategic thinking, and solution orientation.

## Compensation
- Annual salary: $270,000-$345,000 USD.
- Expected to work from the Washington, DC, San Francisco, or New York City office at least 3 days per week.
