## Job Description

## Responsibilities
- Develop and implement OpenAI’s public policy strategy across South America, aligning global priorities with regional political, policy, and partnership opportunities.
- Build relationships with federal, state, and city-level policymakers, regulators, ministerial officials, civil society leaders, academic institutions, industry partners, and the broader innovation ecosystem.
- Anticipate and shape legislative, regulatory, and political developments involving AI, innovation, safety, infrastructure, and economic development.
- Identify and develop partnerships across finance, academia, agriculture, industry, and healthcare to enable responsible AI deployment.
- Support enterprise and public-sector adoption of AI tools in collaboration with commercial and technical teams.
- Translate strategy into implementation plans with timelines, engagement plans, goals, and deliverables.
- Prepare insights, memos, activity updates, and recommendations for internal and executive audiences.
- Organize and lead meetings, events, roundtables, and official engagements across South America.
- Collaborate with research, engineering, product, legal, communications, partnerships, commercial, and policy teams.
- Ensure South American perspectives inform global work on AI safety, governance, and deployment.

## Requirements
- 15+ years of experience in public policy, government relations, technology policy, economic development, or a related field.
- Demonstrated success engaging federal governments across multiple jurisdictions.
- Experience shaping legislation or regulation, leading high-stakes policy campaigns, or building public- and private-sector partnerships.
- Experience advising senior executives on political, regulatory, and public-affairs risks and opportunities.
- Deep knowledge of South America’s political, regulatory, and economic ecosystem.
- Knowledge of AI policy issues including copyright, safety, privacy, innovation, competition, and infrastructure.
- Outstanding communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with experience influencing senior stakeholders.
- Experience working cross-functionally across legal, research, communications, commercial, and policy teams.
- Strong strategic judgment, integrity, situational awareness, and political instincts.
- Ability to communicate complex technical and policy concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
