## Job Description

## Responsibilities

- Lead medium-to-large scale initiatives, partnering with teammates and adhering to software development best practices to ship high quality software continuously and iteratively.
- Collaborate with Product & Design teams to build delightful experiences that help customers save and invest.
- Balance innovation with application performance and security.
- Maintain high work quality standards, mentoring less experienced engineers.
- Create efficiency through clean code, rigorous testing, and pragmatic programming.
- Collaborate in small groups to improve Betterment’s software.
- Contribute to open communication and problem-solving.

## Requirements

- Strong experience in object-oriented programming; **Ruby on Rails** preferred. Experience with **Java**, **Python**, **C#**, or **Node.js** welcomed.
- Proficiency in building frontend applications using **React.js** or similar framework.
- Experience building APIs using **GraphQL**.
- Proficiency with relational databases, including designing schemas and writing detailed **SQL** queries.
- Strong command of fundamental algorithms and data structures.
- Proven ability to lead and manage projects spanning one or more teams, considering tradeoffs for on-time delivery with high standards of quality, performance, and security.
- Passion for building delightful frontend interfaces and components.
- Passion for ongoing learning and knowledge-sharing.
- Adept at approaching complex engineering challenges with innovative solutions.

## Compensation

- Base salary: **$170,000 - $195,000** (New York City)
