> Supports development of autonomous-vehicle safety risk models through large-scale driving and simulation data analysis, dataset pipelines, and empirical experimentation. Requires current enrollment in a quantitative B.S. or M.S. program, strong Python skills, and onsite availability for a part-time project.

## Job Description

## Responsibilities
- Support the design, development, and iteration of data-driven safety risk models that quantify autonomous-driving performance and surface safety-relevant signals.
- Assist with dataset management pipelines, including curation, labeling, versioning, and quality checks.
- Define and run empirical experiments using driving and simulation data.
- Analyze large-scale datasets to identify trends, edge cases, and opportunities to improve autonomy performance.
- Work through ambiguous, open-ended problems with a researcher’s mindset and bias toward rapid iteration.
- Communicate complex results, trade-offs, and uncertainty clearly to stakeholders.

## Requirements
- Currently pursuing a B.S. or M.S. in engineering, computer science, statistics, physics, or a related quantitative field.
- Strong Python programming skills.
- Understanding of data manipulation using SQL, PySpark, or Scala.
- Foundation in statistics, machine learning, and risk or reliability modeling.
- Ability to work independently under uncertainty on open-ended problems.
- Currently enrolled in a relevant B.S. or M.S. program.
- Available for a minimum three-month assignment and at least 20 hours per week.
- Able to work onsite at a Zoox office location.

## Nice-to-haves
- Experience with safety, reliability, or risk modeling, including survival analysis, Bayesian methods, or causal inference.
- Experience with large-scale dataset management, data pipelines, or MLOps tooling.
- Background in autonomous vehicles, robotics, or a related quantitative discipline.
- Prior research experience taking ambiguous, end-to-end problems from inception to results independently.
- Strong written, verbal, teamwork, and collaboration skills.
