The role requires advanced electrophysiology, quantitative analysis, clinical research collaboration, and a PhD or MD/PhD.

## Job Description

## Responsibilities
- Lead the design, implementation, and deployment of intracranial cognitive paradigms covering language, syntax, semantic learning, mathematical reasoning, perception, and working memory.
- Translate primate paradigms into compatible human studies in coordination with experimental and computational teams.
- Process and analyze single-neuron, multi-unit, and local field potential recordings from the human brain, including sEEG, ECoG, and microelectrode arrays.
- Apply advanced computational cognitive neuroscience methods to large-scale datasets in coordination with the AI team.
- Coordinate and manage clinical partners around the world, including study setup, data collection visits, and ongoing scientific collaboration.
- Own IRB and regulatory documentation, data-sharing agreements, and cross-site protocol harmonization.
- Build standardized paradigms, preprocessing, and analysis infrastructure for combining recordings across patients, sessions, and sites and comparing human and primate results.
- Support open-science releases of tools, data, and methods.

## Requirements
- Hands-on experience with human intracranial electrophysiology, such as single-neuron recording, sEEG, ECoG, Utah arrays, or comparable techniques; expected at the Senior Scientist or Principal Scientist level.
- First-author publications demonstrating high-quality research using human intracranial electrophysiology, ideally at the single-neuron level; expected at the Senior Scientist or Principal Scientist level.
- Experience designing and implementing cognitive paradigms in clinical research populations; expected at the Senior Scientist or Principal Scientist level.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with fluency in Python and/or MATLAB; expected at the Senior Scientist or Principal Scientist level.
- Strong understanding of population-level analysis of cognitive representations in real neurons or neural networks; expected at the Senior Scientist or Principal Scientist level.
- Ability to build on shared infrastructure and collaborate across teams.
- Ability to establish and maintain clinical partnerships through clear communication and on-site collaboration.
- Resourcefulness and ability to self-direct.
- Commitment to open science.
- PhD or MD/PhD expected. Backgrounds in engineering, computational neuroscience, cognitive neuroscience, or related fields are welcome.

## Nice to Have
- Experience managing multi-site clinical research, including IRB submissions and protocol standardization; expected at the Senior Scientist or Principal Scientist level.
- Successful mentorship of scientists or leadership of clinical research initiatives; expected at the Principal Scientist level.
- Combined AI and neuroscience background.
- Background in cognitive neuroscience of language, syntax, semantic processing, working memory, or mathematical cognition.
- Existing collaborations with neurosurgical sites.
- Experience translating paradigms across rodent, primate, and human studies.
- Working proficiency in Mandarin or a major European language.

## Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range: $120,000–$220,000, based on location in the Bay Area.
- Competitive compensation package with comprehensive benefits, commensurate with experience.
