## Job Description

## Responsibilities
- Work cross-functionally with product, design, and engineering teams to execute product and business strategy.
- Contribute to the full development lifecycle, including technical design, development, testing, experimentation, analysis, and launch.
- Design and implement end-to-end solutions for Reddit’s media experience, including React and TypeScript web UI components and Go and Python backend APIs.
- Optimize media performance and playback experiences across Reddit globally.
- Review code, design documents, product specifications, and design mocks.
- Establish engineering standards and best practices, improve developer workflows, and mentor junior engineers.

## Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of professional software development experience.
- Experience with one or more general-purpose programming languages, including Go, Python, Ruby, Java, or C++.
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript, React, Next.js, and TypeScript.
- Experience translating complex UI/UX designs into scalable web applications.
- Experience designing and implementing maintainable APIs.
- Familiarity with GraphQL, REST, HTTP, gRPC, and Thrift.
- Strong organization, prioritization, communication, and collaboration skills in a fully remote environment.

## Nice-to-haves
- Product thinking and experience connecting media-streaming metrics such as QoE and buffering rates to user-facing features.
- Familiarity with HLS, MPEG-DASH, MP4, and other streaming protocols.
- Knowledge of H.264, H.265/HEVC, VP9, and AV1 video compression standards.
- Familiarity with background data fetching.
- Interest in video compression technologies and current industry developments.

## Compensation and benefits
- Base salary range: $190,000–$267,000 USD.
- Equity in the form of restricted stock units; some positions may also be eligible for commission.
