## Job Description

## Responsibilities
- Analyze problems and propose solutions to enhance web-based data collection activities.
- Provide expert recommendations on the application of Perl CGI to study investigators.
- Recommend optimal use of electronic media for record keeping and data management to physicians and technologists.
- Create medical image analysis evaluation portals for doctors.
- Automate image transfer, storage, and conversion using DICOM from multiple servers and medical imaging equipment (Hologic, Toshiba, GE).
- Manage medical image data automation, storage, and accessibility.
- Assign, review, and mentor computer support technicians in collecting and removing medical image data; troubleshoot web application, server, and network issues.
- Advise clinical technicians on application use, improve data collection techniques, and ensure data integrity through communication and auditing.
- Update Quest Diagnostics laboratory panels and ensure successful lab data transfer, storage, and retrieval.
- Coordinate account information for all staff.
- Participate in weekly and monthly meetings on study status, participant retention, and technical issues.
- Write reports and documentation related to programming tasks.
- Ensure programs are clearly written, well-documented, and maintainable using source code configuration and version management.
- Coordinate the full lifecycle of web-based applications.
- Recommend, implement, and maintain best practices for programming online data collection and review in epidemiologic field studies.
- Serve as an authoritative source for effective web design that maximizes accurate data collection and review, including optimal user interaction, look, and feel.
- Independently design and implement novel web-based data collection systems and programs for real-time medical examination data using appropriate programming languages.
- Create novel participant and personnel management systems for tracking and scheduling.
- Create systems for generating participant reports based on collected data.
- Design, implement, and maintain databases corresponding to web-based programs, including mechanisms for transfers and backups from real-time medical instruments (EKG, DXA).
- Design, implement, test, and deploy software that minimizes data entry and maximizes instrument interfaces while ensuring functionality, reliability, security, and performance.
- Assign, review, and mentor other programmers in developing applications for clinical research and medical image data.
- Perform database administration, management, and programming across multiple web servers, including MySQL master-master replication.
- Perform system administration of web-server systems to prevent data entry failures.
- Export data from relational databases to statistical programs (e.g., SAS).
- Provide technical support for analyses, processing, and user support of computer systems using statistical procedures.
- Provide project management guidance.
- Identify unmet needs, introduce new technologies, and gather user feedback.
- Interface with staff to gather requirements, develop project plans, and execute them.
- Design, develop, document, analyze, create, test, and modify computer systems, programs, and integrations.
- Set up and use various computer systems and software packages.
- Implement improvements to speed development of applications, databases, or tools.
- Determine needs and provide IT support for computerized systems; compile and manage data with quality control.
- Develop custom computer applications for data collection and analysis, including interfaces with hardware.
- Maintain problem tracking and resolution databases.
- Manage data formatting for input and output.
- Perform quality assurance, quality control, and troubleshoot image analysis issues.
- Drive collection and refinement of data.
- Produce reports, graphs, and figures.

- Train and educate users on systems, tools, and reports.

## Requirements
- Expertise in Perl CGI, web-based data collection systems, DICOM, MySQL (including master-master replication), and statistical tools like SAS.
- Experience with medical imaging equipment (Hologic, Toshiba, GE), database administration, system administration of web servers, and full lifecycle management of web applications.
- Ability to independently design, implement, test, and deploy novel systems for real-time data collection, participant management, reporting, and hardware integration.
- Strong skills in programming best practices, documentation, version control, mentoring, project management, user training, and quality assurance.
- Knowledge of epidemiologic field studies, clinical research data, and providing technical support for biomedical informatics.

## Nice-to-Haves
- Familiarity with machine learning, high-performance computing, and modern cross-platform programming approaches.
- Experience in biomedical research settings, particularly at NIH or similar.
