## Job Description

## Responsibilities
- Monitor and alert on production databases to identify and respond to issues proactively.
- Review and optimize MySQL configurations for performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Identify problematic queries and improve performance using execution plans, indexing strategies, and related techniques.
- Partner with engineers on database schemas, indexes, and query patterns.
- Investigate production database issues, determine root causes, and implement lasting fixes.
- Automate routine database maintenance and operational tasks.
- Review capacity and performance trends to anticipate scaling needs and infrastructure improvements.
- Plan and execute database upgrades, migrations, and configuration changes while minimizing risk and customer impact.
- Strengthen backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes and validate data restoration.
- Maintain database documentation and operational runbooks.
- Support junior team members and develop collaborative working relationships.

## Requirements
- At least 7 years of professional experience administering MySQL or similar production databases.
- Deep understanding of databases, automated testing, and agile methodologies.
- Experience designing and building infrastructure for complex cloud-based software applications.
- Comfort working in cloud environments and using Infrastructure as Code.
- Knowledge of microservices architecture.
- Collaborative communication, mentoring, and problem-solving skills.

## Nice-to-haves
- Experience with AWS, preferably AWS RDS and Aurora.
- Experience with Azure Databases.
- Contributions outside the core role, such as technical blog posts, event participation, or recruiting support.

## Compensation and Benefits
- Target base salary: **$140,000–$180,000 annually**.
