## Job Description

## Responsibilities
- Collaborate with high-visibility teams and stakeholders on key engineering initiatives.
- Provide hands-on technical leadership covering architecture and design, vision and requirements setting, and incident response processes.
- Prioritize engineering work based on user needs and pain points so product engineers can ship features quickly and reliably.
- Drive architectural improvements across the company with infrastructure and product engineering leaders.
- Lead processes that help infrastructure teams work effectively and interface with the broader organization.
- Manage and grow multiple engineering teams and engineering leaders, including line managers, delivering high-impact projects on schedule and with high quality.
- Partner with recruiting to attract and hire talent and define hiring strategies.

## Requirements
- 2+ years managing managers and senior individual contributors across teams of at least 25 people.
- 3+ years managing teams that ship and operate critical distributed-systems infrastructure.
- Experience leading staff or principal engineers and aligning technical collaborators on architectural or strategic decisions.
- Experience managing incident response processes and on-call rotations.
- Experience managing teams working on API design, abstractions, frameworks, or client libraries.
- Experience managing demanding or conflicting stakeholder and partner relationships.
- Experience driving business and product outcomes in highly cross-functional organizations with substantial autonomy.
- Experience building teams, defining missions, executing goals, recruiting, mentoring, and retaining talent.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration, rigorous thinking, effective communication, and decision-making skills.
- Experience leading partially remote and geographically distributed teams.
- Commitment to a healthy, challenging, and supportive work environment.

## Preferred Qualifications
- 8+ years of management experience, including 5+ years managing managers.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for leadership, users, and company-wide audiences.
- Experience changing culture across large organizations.
- Experience with infrastructure platforms such as databases, logging, event streams, metrics, and caching.
- Experience building products with statically typed Java and dynamically typed Ruby.
- Experience developing with and contributing to open-source framework ecosystems.
- Experience developing sustainable in-house framework and abstraction ecosystems in large engineering organizations.
- Experience building with AWS or other cloud-provider primitives.
