## Job Description

## Responsibilities
- Grow SCIP into a thriving, self-sustaining, multi-party open standard as its technical steward.
- Own SCIP governance, roadmap, contribution guidelines, triage, and prioritization.
- Review and mentor contributors; set quality bar for indexers.
- Drive alignment across partner organizations (Meta, Uber, Mozilla, Stripe) running SCIP indexers in production.
- Shape Sourcegraph's product direction for precise code intelligence, especially at the intersection with AI agents.
- Make technical decisions on language-feature support, AST-modifying tools, symbol-resolution correctness, build-system integrations, and indexer implementations.
- Participate in on-call support rotation.
- Influence company-level bets on how precise data grounds AI agents and how agents can assist with indexer maintenance.

## Requirements
- Senior to staff-level experience with credible compiler and language fluency.
- Deep familiarity with compiler or language toolchains to make sound decisions on protocols and indexers.
- Experience leading open source projects or standards into multi-party communities: setting governance, roadmap, triaging, reviewing, mentoring contributors, and driving alignment across independent organizations.
- Comfortable operating at staff scope with broad direction, making high-stakes calls under ambiguity.
- Pragmatic product-in mindset: ship smallest correct thing, hold precision as non-negotiable but flexible on implementation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for public technical leadership (issues, RFCs, design discussions, partner/executive conversations).
- Genuine excitement about AI-forward applications of precise code intelligence as a substrate for AI agents.

## Nice-to-Haves
- Experience creating or leading a developer tool or standard consumed across many organizations (indexer, language server, build tool, protocol, or similar).
- Familiarity with Java/Kotlin compiler internals, Lombok, Sorbet for Ruby, Gradle/Maven/Bazel, tree-sitter, C++/clang, or Go indexers.
