## Job Description

## Responsibilities
- Design and build end-to-end machine learning solutions
- Work in small, cross-functional product teams with opportunities for growth and project ownership
- Actively participate in an internal community of economists, data scientists, operations research scientists, and machine learning engineers
- Develop high-impact solutions to support Instacart's growth plans
- Work closely with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders from problem understanding through solution recommendation and controlled experiment testing
- Suggest and drive organization-wide initiatives

## Requirements
- Current or recently graduated PhD student in economics or related field (marketing, finance, operations research) with focus on data-intensive problems
- Blend of economic theory, applied econometrics, and business acumen
- Expertise in causal inference with observational and experimental data
- Expertise in Python or R
- Fluency in data manipulation (SQL, Pandas) and machine learning tools (scikit-learn, XGBoost, Keras/Tensorflow)
- Self-motivation and strong sense of ownership

## Nice-to-Haves
- Research experience in computationally intensive empirical topics
- Exposure to machine learning coursework and applications
