## Job Description

## Responsibilities
- Own high-level architecture and scaling decisions for core Phone platform components, including CPaaS abstractions, provider adapters, and shared messaging and voice APIs.
- Own Phone Billing end to end, including usage metering, rating, reserve/commit lifecycle, idempotency, reconciliation, and audit trails for Phone and WhatsApp channels.
- Evolve Trust & Compliance systems into configuration-driven, rules-based platforms that adapt to regulatory and carrier requirements.
- Lead cross-cutting initiatives improving reliability, latency, and throughput across high-concurrency APIs and workflows.
- Drive observability and resilience through monitoring, alerting, incident response, financial invariants, and operational practices.
- Use LLMs and AI tools to write, refactor, test, and debug code while implementing reliability guardrails.
- Partner with product, infrastructure, security, finance, and legal teams on data integrity, access control, and compliance.
- Develop engineering managers and senior engineers, build leadership pipelines, plan succession, and raise the hiring bar.
- Participate in design reviews, technical deep dives, and on-call rotations.
- Own multiple teams and products, establish the engineering system, and set technical direction.

## Requirements
- 9+ years of backend engineering experience and 2+ years of leadership experience.
- Proven experience designing fault-tolerant systems operating at the scale of billions of hits or events.
- Deep expertise in distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and asynchronous job processing.
- Experience building correctness-critical systems such as metering, ledgers, billing, or payments, with knowledge of idempotency, exactly-once semantics, and reconciliation.
- Experience optimizing availability, performance, and reliability under load.
- Strong experience with relational and NoSQL data models, especially complex transactional data.
- Experience designing policy- or rules-driven systems that evolve with external requirements.
- Familiarity with monitoring, SLOs, and production root-cause analysis.
- Familiarity with hallucination mitigation strategies, including code constraints, test scaffolding, embeddings, and context injection.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills, including with Finance, Legal, and external partners.
- Pragmatic, hands-on leadership balancing long-term vision with iterative execution.

## Preferred Experience
- Usage-based billing or metering engines in a high-volume product.
- Telecom trust and compliance regimes, including 10DLC, toll-free verification, TCPA/TSR, DLT, carrier filtering, or number portability.
- Provider-agnostic integration layers across multiple third-party vendors.
- AI tools and communication APIs such as Twilio or Plivo.
- Contributions to open-source tools, internal platforms, or engineering blogs.
