> Hands-on principal product designer will translate OfferUp’s brand strategy into distinctive consumer mobile experiences, prototypes, design-system patterns, and measurable experiments. The role requires substantial scaled consumer-product experience, strong interaction and visual design, research and experimentation fluency, and executive-level cross-functional influence.

## Job Description

## Responsibilities
- Translate brand strategy into practical product-experience principles, frameworks, and artifacts for Product and Engineering.
- Identify opportunities to improve product comprehension, local relevance, trust, activation, and return behavior.
- Design strategically important mobile experiences in Figma from concept through engineering-ready handoff.
- Develop hypotheses connecting design decisions to user and business outcomes; create prototypes for testing.
- Partner with UX Design and Consumer Product teams to prototype, validate, ship, and measure experiences.
- Build reusable interaction, visual, and content patterns at the component level.
- Assess the design operating model and recommend long-term capabilities.
- Produce experience audits, principles, hypotheses, validated prototypes, implementation-ready designs, design-system recommendations, and measurement readouts.
- Use qualitative research, experimentation, and behavioral metrics to evaluate outcomes.
- Collaborate across Product, Marketing/Brand, UX, and Engineering; provide critique and practical systems.

## Requirements
- Significant experience designing consumer mobile products at scale.
- Portfolio demonstrating strong interaction design and sophisticated visual judgment.
- Ability to translate brand or product strategy into an end-to-end digital experience.
- Experience with discovery, marketplace, commerce, social, community, or local products.
- Fluency in experimentation, behavioral metrics, and qualitative research.
- Experience creating or evolving product design systems.
- Executive communication skills and ability to influence senior Product and business leaders.
- Comfort working within legacy behavior, technical constraints, and closely monitored performance metrics.
- Experience as a Principal Designer, Design Director, Head of Product Design, or equivalent hands-on design leader.
- Ability to move from strategy to detailed interface design and personally execute core deliverables.
- Ability to collaborate with quantitatively oriented product partners and build cross-functional alignment.

## Compensation
- 1099 independent contractor: $140–$165 per hour, equivalent to $291,200–$343,200 annually.
- W-2 contract employee: $100–$130 per hour, equivalent to $208,000–$270,400 annually.
- Final rate depends on experience, scope, and classification.
- Contract role is not eligible for health benefits, paid time off, retirement contributions, bonus, commission, or equity.
